Finishing Class: It is time to make your finished knitted projects shine. Join Tina and learn the basics of blocking, hiding ends and seaming knitted projects. This mostly lecture with some hands on class will cover: how/where to hide ends, joining new yarns, blocking different fibers, how to pick up stitches to avoid seaming and how to create straight and curved seams that look great. There is before-class homework.
Homework: knit 3 pairs (6 total) of swatches using a dk or worsted weight yarn.
Swatch pair 1- (make 2 of these) Cast on 24 stitches, Row 1: knit, turn Row 2: Purl, turn (repeat 10 times). Bind off.
Swatch pair 2-(make one each of these)
Swatch 1: Cast on 24 stitches. Row 1: knit, Row 2 Purl, repeat 5 more times. Row 13: bind off 4, knit remaining st., turn. Row 14, bind off 4 st, purl across remaining st, turn. Row 15: Bind 1, knit across remaining st, turn. Row 16: bind off 1 st. purl across remaining st. (repeat rows 15 and 16 2 more times. Row 21 bind off.
Swatch 2: Cast on 24 stitches. Row 1: Knit across, turn. Row 2: Purl across, turn. (repeat 5 more times). Row 13: k 10, bind off 4, k 9, turn. Row 14: purl 8, k2tog, turn. Row 15: ssk, k remaining st, turn. Row 16: Purl to last 2 st before gap, K2tog, turn. Row 17: ssk, k to end of row, turn. Row 18: ssk, k to end of row, turn. Row 19: purl to last 2 st before the gap, k2tog, turn. Row 20 ssk, knit to end of row, turn. Row 21 bind off to gap. Break yarn and rejoin it to the remaining stitches. Row 14: ssk, purl to end of row, turn. Row 15: k to last two stitches, k2tog. Repeat rows 14 and 15 twice more. Repeat row 14. bind off work.
