2-At-A-Time Toe Up Socks

The benefits of learning this technique include having the socks completed at the same time, having them turn out the same size, and avoiding Second Sock Syndrome.

Students learn on worsted weight yarn so the process is easier to see, fewer stitches are required to complete the pair and so the project is completed faster, and confidence is gained more quickly.  In the first class, students will learn how to begin knitting two socks at the same time by casting on just eight stitches from two separate balls of yarn. Between the first and second sessions, students will knit outside of class until both socks are the length appropriate to begin the gussets. Socks are custom fitted to the knitter's feet in both circumference and length.
During the second session, gussets are created. Should the student wish, a second pair of socks can be started using two balls (200 yards each) of sock weight yarn on a 40" size 2US circular.   During the third and final session, the heel is created and the cuff is begun. We'll practice a stretchy bind off for when the cuff is the student's desired length. Socks will be completed after the third class is over at the student's leisure. If time permits, techniques will be shared on ways to reinforce places where students tend to wear holes in their socks.
