Got Gauge???

What is gauge? Do I need to make a gauge swatch? Does gauge matter if I’m only making blankets or scarves that don’t need to fit? This class explains why gauge really does matter; how it impacts the fabric you create, the amount of yarn you need and why making a swatch is actually a time saver. Students will learn how to “read” gauge, decipher what that means for the project, the impact blocking and choice of fiber and how to make adjustments to achieve the desired gauge.

2 hour class  - minimum 3, maximum 6 students

Materials: light colored, worsted weight yarn and size 7 and 8 needles.

Homework:

With size 8 needles, cast on 27 stitches and knit in stockinette stitch until the swatch is as tall as it is wide. Block swatch by getting it wet, rolling in a towel and laying flat to dry.

With size 7 needles, cast on 30 stitches and knit in stockinette stitch until the swatch is as tall as it is wide.  Do not block swatch.

My next sweater was one of her designs called ?Flying Geese?, which took Grand Champion, Best in Show, People?s Choice, and Best Cardigan at the Western Washington Fair in Puyalup in 1999. I worked and taught at Churchmouse Yarns and Teas on Bainbridge Island for 16 years and recently retired in June, 2016.
