Right Yarn, Wrong Project? Right Project Wrong Yarn?



Many patterns suggest specific yarn brands without any more information. This class will help you decide how to substitute different brands and styles of yarns for the finished project you want. Topics such as general information about yarn (Yarn fiber content, gauge, drape) will be shared. Students will learn how to figure out what weight different/obscure yarn brands are and how to pick a substitute yarn suggested with information provided by the pattern.

Instructor Bio:
I first learned to knit in college while earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. My knitting changed dramatically when I discovered the Scottish designer Alice Starmore. My next sweater was one of her designs called ?Flying Geese?, which took Grand Champion, Best in Show, People?s Choice, and Best Cardigan at the Western Washington Fair in Puyalup in 1999. I worked and taught at Churchmouse Yarns and Teas on Bainbridge Island for 16 years and recently retired in June, 2016. I have enjoyed taking knitting tours to Iceland, Ireland, Scotland, Australia and New Zealand.
