Devil's Churn Hat PDF

This hat is part of the first offering of the 2016 BlackSheep Accessories Club.  Knit in Studio Donegal Soft on size 7 needles.  This hat sports a sassy cable and braid that reminded us of the Oregon Coastline and the Devil's Churn in particular.  A mildly challenging knit, this hat is a great introduction to cables and charts for a new knitter or a fun, quick knit for someone more experienced.  

This collaborative pattern arose from a discussion that Tina and I had about our upcoming accessories club. Tina loves hats and I love mitts. It seemed natural to join forces and make a complimentary pattern set. So Tina set out to make the hat and I made mitts to match!

This pattern is meant for an adventurous novice to advanced knitter and all those in-between.

Both written and charted directions are included in this pattern. Please read the entire pattern before beginning. 
Yarn: Studio Donegal Soft Donegal, 100% Merino, Charcoal color, approx. 110 yards

Needle: US 7 (4.5 mm) Signature DPNs or needles to obtain gauge

Gauge: 4.44 stitches per inch (spi) OR 18 stitches to 4 inches/10 cm in stockinette

Size: small, Large 

To alter the size: Add or subtract stitches in the purl columns on either side of of the wide cable (see diagram) sOR adjust your gauge to increase or decrease the length of the mitts as needed.
